The White Oak Yearbook is designed by students with the assistance of an advisor. Students are responsible for photographing events and activities, selecting themes, layouts, fonts, and colors. Yearbook occurs October-March one cycle day a week to meet publishing deadlines.

Jazz Band is for all middle school musicians in grades 5-8. This ensemble will be open to learners by audition and is designed for advanced learners in their third through fifth year of instrumental study. The ensemble will run from October through May with auditions being held in September and January. An audition will be required for all learners in January regardless of their participation in Jazz Band in the Fall. While participation is typically for traditional big band instruments, other instruments are welcome at the director’s discretion. 

This ensemble will rehearse on Wednesdays each week after school until 4pm, with sectional rehearsals scheduled approximately once a month on Tuesdays after school. Learners are expected to attend all rehearsals unless prior arrangements or conflict have been declared at auditions. This ensemble will perform at both MS Band concerts, local Jazz Festivals, and at Music in the Parks in the Spring.

Student Council is one of our LEO offerings, which requires some commitment on the learner’s part outside of the school day. Learners who select this LEO should plan accordingly to support the various after school events organized and run by Student Council members.

Middle School learners will have an opportunity to serve on the Student Council. The Student Council organizes dances, spirit days, learner events, the school store, and community service projects. Student Council members will serve as Learner Ambassadors at events such as: Orientation, Back-to-School Night, Conferences, Concerts, and other school events.

The 6^th grade student council begins meeting in October. We generate ideas for and promoting the November 3^rd Fall Fest. Our 6^th grade student council members are excited to be a part of organizing, including food drives, dances, art nights, food festivals, door decorating contests and more! We hope to have an amazing year making our middle school a great place to be.
