MTSS Process

Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)

In order to better fulfill Manheim Central Middle School’s vision of, “Educating and empowering learners to be lifelong difference makers,” a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework has been developed and utilized by staff at the middle school.

The MTSS process helps to identify learners that may benefit from additional supports (behavioral, academic, socio-emotional, or any other potential area affecting achievement) beyond what a typical learner receives. Once concerns are articulated about a learner over a consistent time period, a team is composed, and a meeting is planned. After gaining a clearer picture of the challenges the learner may be facing, relevant supports are discussed and applied, and data is monitored over time to gauge the effectiveness of those interventions. Additional meetings and supports are implemented as necessary to ensure the success of the learner.

It is important to note that while the MTSS process may end in a Multi-Disciplinary Evaluation (or MDE) to determine eligibility for specially designed instruction, this is only one possible outcome of involvement in the MTSS process.  Seen as a whole, the MTSS process is simply about matching learner needs with relevant supports, ensuring that all learners have the necessary foundation to experience their ideal level of success.
